Trailing by a run in the sixth inning, Ned Yost turned the ball over to lefty reliever Franklin Morales.
The Royals’ manager then watched Morales turn a close game into what developed into a 9-3 Mets victory in Game 3 of the World Series at Citi Field on Friday night.
Morales gave up a pinch-hit single to Juan Uribe that scored Juan Lagares for a two-run lead, and then it got worse for the Royals.
Morales fielded Curtis Granderson’s grounder and it appeared a 1-6-3 double play was in order. Instead, Morales said he heard catcher Salvador Perez’ voice yelling for him to throw home.
