Toward the end of our marathon pregame broadcast yesterday on SNY, the Baseball Night in New York crew batted around the question of "what would it take for the Mets to surprise this year?"
It's obvious that the team needs dominant starting pitching if it hopes to contend, so I suggested that a true key to their playoff hopes lies in a less obvious place -- the offense. If the Mets want to be relevant all summer, their lineup needs to be solid and competent, enough to help the excellent top half of the rotation, and high-ceiling bullpen.
