WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) — Nationals third baseman Yunel Escobar left Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets during his at-bat in the second inning with an apparent injury.
Escobar tried stopping his swing on a 1-1 pitch from Noah Syndergaard. He screamed in pain, flung his bat and fell to the ground.
Video of Escobar’s protracted descent quickly made its way around social media.
After trainer Lee Kuntz examined Escobar’s left wrist, Escobar fouled the next pitch down the left field line. He then immediately walked to the dugout and was replaced by Dan Uggla.
