Wasted opportunities doom Mets loss to Yankees, presented by W.B. Mason

Steven Matz allowed six runs in the first two innings and the Mets woeful hitting with runners in scoring position cost them in a 9-5 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

In case you missed it…

  • The Mets had 12 baserunners in 3 2/3 innings against Yankees starter Chad Green but scored just three runs. They grounded into three double plays in the first three frames, two by Wilmer Flores¸ who had a brutal game on both sides of the ball.
  • Matz (8-8) allowed three runs in the bottom half and then three more in the second on Mark Teixeira's three-run homer.
