Wally Backman could be a candidate for next Marlins manager

Mets Triple-A manager Wally Backman could be a candidate to replace Marlins manager Mike Redmond, according to the Miami Herald’s Clark Spencer (April 20).

Spencer believes Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria could be inclined to fire Redmond if the Marlins struggle in their upcoming series against the Phillies.

The Marlins entered 2015 with raised expectations, but have started the season 3-10, including a recent sweep by the Mets at Citi Field.

Backman is in his third year with Triple-A Las Vegas, where he was named the Pacific Coast League’s Manager of the Year last season going 81-63. He entered the year 763-690 (.
