The Marlins may be thinking about dumping manager Mike Redmond after a 3-10 start, but the Mets were surprised to hear that their division rival may be considering their Triple-A manager to replace him.
Sources close to Wally Backman said the Las Vegas 51s manager had not been contacted by anyone from the Marlins as of early Monday morning. A Mets team source said the Marlins had not reached out to them about talking to Backman, who is under contract for the 2015 season.
The Miami Herald reported Sunday night said that Redmond was on the hot seat after his Marlins were swept by the Mets in a four-game series this weekend.
