ATLANTA — The Mets will bring in new blood in trying to fill Noah Syndergaard’s vacancy in the rotation.
To that end, the team plans to call up right-hander Walker Lockett from Triple-A Syracuse to start Thursday night against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, according to industry sources. Lockett was 0-1 with a 3.28 ERA in four appearances for Syracuse after opening the season on the injured list. The Mets obtained Lockett last winter in a trade with the Indians for Kevin Plawecki.
Syndergaard was placed on the IL this week with a “low-grade” hamstring strain, and the Mets are hopeful his absence will be limited to one-to-two starts.
