Walker helps Mets avoid sweep by Tigers, presented by W.B. Mason

Neil Walker hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth off Francisco Rodriguez to lift the Mets past the Tigers, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.

In case you missed it…

  • K-Rod plunked Alejandro De Aza on a 0-2 pitch to start the top of the ninth. Walker got ahead 1-0 before hitting his 19th home run of the season.
  • The Mets caught a break in the eighth when J.D. Martinez ran the Tigers out of a potential go-ahead run. With runners at first and second and two outs, Casey McGehee's infield single deflected off of James Loney and into shallow right.
