Vargas makes first rehab start

Mets LHP Jason Vargas allowed three runs and three hits in four innings in his first rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday at Cashman Field.

Vargas, who will likely make his Mets debut this weekend after manager Mickey Callaway relegated RHP Matt Harvey to the bullpen, has been out since mid-March after undergoing surgery on his non-throwing hand.

Vargas retired five of the first six hitters he faced before giving up three runs and three doubles in the third inning. He recorded two of his four strikeouts in a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
