Brodie Van Wagenen wants to start winning immediately.
Introduced as the 13th general manager in Mets history at a Citi Field press conference Tuesday, the former agent and co-head of CAA’s baseball division wasn’t about to utter the word “rebuild” in assessing the franchise he has been hired to resurrect.
“We will win now, we will win in the future,” Van Wagenen said. “We want to develop a winning culture and a winning mindset and we will deliver this city and this fan base a team they can be proud of.”
The 44-year-old Van Wagenen, who received a four-year contract, was among 40-plus candidates considered for the job that opened in June, when Sandy Alderson stepped aside to battle his recurrence of cancer, according to team COO Jeff Wilpon.
