UnforMETable, Episode 9: Ryan Jaroncyk

Welcome to UnforMETable, a new show from Amazin’ Avenue that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past

This week, Rob Wolff travels back to the 1995 MLB Draft. In a draft that would see future major league stars such as Roy Halladay, Todd Helton, and Kerry Wood go in the first round—not to mention future Met Carlos Beltran in the second—the Mets use their first round selection to tab a highly-touted young shortstop prospect with great tools named Ryan Jaroncyk.

Unfortunately, the Mets would never get the chance to find out if Jaroncyk could become a star in his own right, as the young man would quit the game of baseball a mere two years later at the age of 20 in Low A ball.
