UnforMETable, Episode 48: Julio Franco

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Julio Franco began his professional baseball journey when he was signed by the Phillies as a young shortstop out of the Dominican Republic in 1978. It was a journey that would ultimately land him in Flushing with the New York Mets almost 30 years later.

With his career seemingly winding down in the late 1990s, Franco spend four seasons overseas before working his way back to the majors in his 40s. The veteran would sign with the Mets prior to the 2006 season, providing leadership—and some historic hits—for a young team on the rise.
