From Sunday evening through Tuesday afternoon, the Mets provided a roller coaster experience, as Javier Báez answered a question about the team’s thumbs-down celebration following their win on Sunday afternoon by saying that the gesture had grown out of the players’ frustration with being booed by their own fans.
That answer sparked a reaction throughout the fan base and across the major outlets that cover the team, and as the Mets played the vast majority of a game that had been suspended months earlier, some of the limited fans at the ballpark made it very clear that they were displeased, particularly with Báez.
