As if to say that his outstanding first three starts of the year were merely a warmup, Jacob deGrom took the mound last night at Citi Field and threw perhaps the best game of his career to date. deGrom set a new career high with 15 strikeouts, and he didn’t walk anyone as he went the distance, shutting out the Nationals with absolute ease.
With that, deGrom has a 0.31 ERA on the season, currently the best mark in all of baseball among qualified starting pitchers. Corbin Burnes, who is also off to an incredible start and hasn’t walked a single batter yet, sits in the second spot and trails deGrom slightly with a 0.
