Top Cuban player expected to draw major MLB interest

Baseball’s international market has a new name that could draw significant interest from several teams.

Meet outfielder/pitcher Oscar Colas. He played last year in Japan and hails from Cuba. Now he’s coming here, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The 21-year-old Colas is a left-handed pitcher with a fastball in the mid-90’s, and he hit .302/.350/.516 last year for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Western League.

One scout told ESPN that Colas would likely stick in the outfield, though another believes he could pitch and play the field. Either way, he is expected to be a popular name.
