Tomas Nido ends one bad streak for Mets catchers

ATLANTA — Tomas Nido entered uncharted territory for a Mets catcher this season Friday: He threw out a base stealer.

Before the Mets’ 5-3 victory over the Braves in 12 innings was complete, the rookie catcher had thrown out two base stealers, the second of which came on a pitchout recommended by catching instructor Glenn Sherlock.

Entering the game, Mets catchers were 0-for-21 attempting to throw out base stealers this season. The drought ended with Nido throwing out Ryan Flaherty at second in the seventh inning. The pitchout to nail Ozzie Albies came the next inning.
