On this date 30 years ago, the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox met for Game 1 of the 1986 World Series.
Boston's starting pitcher Bruce Hurst dazzled the Mets hitters, allowing only four hits in eight innings and getting Ray Knight to ground into an inning-ending double play to get out of trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mets starting pitcher Ron Darling was just as electric, allowing only three hits and one unearned run in seven innings. Darling also struck out eight batters.
Boston's one run came when 2B Tim Teufel committed an error in the bottom of the seventh inning.
