Time running out on Mets to decide next David Wright step

CHICAGO — David Wright remains on a clock of sorts, but that is unlikely to dictate how the Mets proceed with the rehabbing third baseman in the coming days.

Though Wright’s 20-day window to complete a minor league rehab assignment expires Friday, club officials have been discussing different scenarios for the Mets captain, who is attempting a comeback after spending the past two-plus years on the disabled list.

Even so, with the minor league season fast approaching a conclusion, any extension of Wright’s rehab assignment — for which the Mets would need his consent — would only buy Wright a few extra days.
