DETROIT — The lineup that Mets Manager Terry Collins wrote out for Saturday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers raised plenty of eyebrows, as much for who was in it as for who was not.
With Yoenis Cespedes and the switch-hitting Asdrubal Cabrera both on the disabled list, Collins tried to stack the lineup with right-handed hitters to face the young Detroit left-hander Matt Boyd, which led to some intriguing choices. Collins put the backup catcher Rene Rivera at designated hitter, Matt Reynolds at shortstop and Ty Kelly in left field, leaving the left-handed-hitting Michael Conforto on the bench, a familiar spot lately.
