The trumpets save the day against the Padres

After a rain delay of about an hour, the Mets defeated the Padres by a score of 2-1 to take the series opener against San Diego. The pitching was outstanding all night but most importantly Edwin Díaz nailed down the save which was his first in thirty-nine days.

Díaz entered the ninth with a slim one-run lead and it got scary when Jurickson Profar led off the inning with a single and a pinch-runner stole second. Díaz then struck out Manny Machado, induced a ground out, and ended the game with another strikeout of Jake Cronenworth.
