Due to a botched refueling process in Miami last night, the Mets’ charter flight did not get in until 5am Tuesday morning. The narrative seemed to be writing itself; the Mets, sluggish from their late arrival, would look sleepy against their crosstown rivals. But that wasn’t the case: the Mets were able to execute their game plan and get enough offense to eke out a 3-2 win in game three of the 2024 Subway Series.
The plan was simple for the Mets and José Quintana: neutralize Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Quintana was able to execute the plan early on, with not giving either player much to hit, content to walk either instead of throw a pitch down the middle.
