It sounded like the most naïve brand of happy talk for so much of this summer. The Mets would end a losing streak and someone — usually Mickey Callaway, but there were others — would talk earnestly about getting on a run, getting hot, building a winning streak, reaching .500. Most of the world rolled its eyes.
Some folks understood, though.
