Theo Epstein found himself back in New York Friday afternoon, back in the city he has enjoyed some of his best — and worst — October memories.
Only this time, the location was Queens, not The Bronx.
“It brings back some memories, having to go through New York to get back to a World Series,” the Cubs president said Friday. “On top of that, someone reminded me it’s the 12th-year anniversary of the Aaron Boone home run, so that brought back a less-than-stellar memory.”
Epstein, who came to the Cubs in 2011 following two World Series titles with the Red Sox, was referring to the 2003 ALCS, when Boone’s 12th-inning home run sent the Yankees to the World Series.
