The MLB Winter Meetings are at full force. The New York Mets, a team on the verge of contention, are looking to add a fifth starter and strengthen its bullpen.
To do so, however, they would need to shed some payroll to acquire a high-profile free agent or give up major-league ready talent to lure a team into trading a valuable piece back.
General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen is reportedly looking at all avenues to improve the team. One of them, however, would involve trading a valuable, controllable young piece of the outfield.
A valuable young piece for the Mets
According to Andy Martino, the Mets are likely to deal a major league outfielder in their pursuit of Pittsburgh Pirates’ star Starling Marte.
