When the Mets signed Luis Severino to a one-year deal relatively early in the offseason, there were legitimate reasons to believe he’d bounce back from a disastrous 2023 season and reasons for concern.
By all accounts, what Severino has done thus far in 2024 has been a massive success, and the Mets should be lauded for the signing. Severino has a 3.83 ERA and a 4.34 FIP through 103.1 innings over the course of 17 starts, and that’s coming off a truly dreadful outing in Pittsburgh last night. If he hadn’t started the seventh inning and loaded the bases before being pulled for Jake Diekman, his numbers last night and on the season would look quite a bit better today.
