ATLANTA — Jason Vargas might be on his seventh or eighth life with the Mets, but team officials made it abundantly clear Sunday the struggling pitcher still hasn’t exhausted No. 9.
A day after Vargas failed to survive the first inning against the Braves, manager Mickey Callaway said the disappointing left-hander will remain in the rotation, albeit pushed back a day to pitch Saturday in St. Louis.
“We’ve got to get Vargas involved if we are going to be the best team,” Callaway said Sunday before the Mets were scheduled to play their series finale against the Braves.
