What a difference a weekend can make. At the time of our last series preview, the Mets had just split a series with the Cubs and had, perhaps, their best pitching matchups of the season lined up for a weekend series against the Rays.
Despite getting a quality, electric start from a debuting Christian Scott, the Mets couldn’t muster a single victory this weekend, losing 10-8, 3-1, and 7-6, two of which were in heartbreaking, late losses. On Friday, José Quintana couldn’t get out of the third inning, on Saturday the offense was asleep at the switch, and on Sunday the bullpen betrayed them.
