Brodie Van Wagenen is supposed to be good at completing deals. Checks out so far.
The Mets and the powerful agent have finalized the terms of the contract to make him the team’s next general manager, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported Sunday. Minor paperwork is being completed, and the earliest the Mets can host a news conference for Van Wagenen is Tuesday.
Van Wagenen beat out Rays senior vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom to secure the spot, a development that represents a strong risk for the Mets.
Van Wagenen will move from negotiating contracts for his clients — who included Jacob deGrom, Yoenis Cespedes and Todd Frazier — to negotiating those deals for the team, a potential conflict of interest.
