The Mets’ good catcher problem still must be solved

It is a true luxury to have a backup catcher who not only handles a pitching staff well, but controls runners and contributes a batting average over .300.

The Mets have that. They may not have it for long, however.

That’s because Rene Rivera may not be the depth-chart backup when Rene Rivera returns from rehabbing his bruised right wrist.

“I give all the credit to Rene Rivera. He’s worked extremely hard since he’s been a Met to get it going offensively. He’s seeing his opportunity to play a little bit due to the injuries,” manager Terry Collins said.
