Despite cruising to a 10-3 victory of the Marlins, the Mets were statistically eliminated from playoff contention this evening. The Brewers, continuing their absolutely torrid run, defeated the Reds 9-2, and clinched the second Wild Card spot behind the Nationals.
The fact that the Mets remained mathematically in for this long seems like a miracle, given the Mets’ several skids over the course of the season. But the Brewers, without the help of their best player, Christian Yelich, have been on an historic run, winning 17 of their last 19, and six in a row to clinch their second straight trip to the playoffs.
