Midafternoon Tuesday, as the clock ticked toward the 4 p.m. trade deadline, three Mets baseball executives breathed deeply, peered into each other’s eyes and rolled the dice.
No longer would the Mets stand pat, no longer would the team by Flushing Bay play underachieving little brother to that talent laden to the point of ridiculousness team in the Bronx.
