There is pitching optimism ahead for the Mets and here’s the reason: Pitching coach Dan Warthen and Terry Collins both told The Post on Tuesday that recent mechanical adjustments by the starters, particularly Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom, are finally allowing the pitchers to go deeper into games.
“That’s the key for our team, we went into spring training saying, ‘We have great pitching,’ and all of a sudden it was gone,’’ Collins said Tuesday before the Mets played the Brewers at Citi Field. “I am very encouraged by what I’ve seen lately from our starters.’’
“We were paying a little too much attention to the base runners and I think that got us all in too big of a hurry to go to the plate,’’ Warthen said of the genesis of the poor mechanics for many of his pitchers.
