BOCA RATON, Fla. — It’s not the General Managers’ meetings if the Mets aren’t searching for one or two bats and bullpen help.
In a perfect world, general manager Sandy Alderson might just take his chances with the same crew that took the Mets to the World Series. But the reality is Daniel Murphy and Yoenis Cespedes probably won’t be returning, leaving the Mets without the No. 3 and 4 hitters in their lineup.
Without dealing an elite starting pitcher, Alderson would have a difficult time addressing that need through the trade market. That leaves free agency, in which Alderson has hardly emerged as a maverick in his five years with the Mets.
