It’s hard to imagine all the good feelings from their remarkable start evaporating into the chill of a single Bronx night. But the Mets absorbed a significant gut punch from their crosstown rivals Friday night in the opener of this installment of the Subway Series.
In a reminder of sorts of which team has dominated city baseball in recent decades, the Yankees hammered the Mets and one of their young aces, Jacob deGrom, 6-1, in front of 45,310 at the Stadium. The Mets saw their 11-game winning streak end and the air come out of all the recent Met hype, at least for one night.
