Terry Collins: Steven Matz won't be used out of the bullpen

Steven Matz's role won't be changing if the pitching-rich Mets reach the postseason. According to Terry Collins, the Long Island lefty won't be a candidate to help in the bullpen.

"You're talking about a guy who's had injury issues," Collins said. "To ask him to do something he hasn't done before. To try to go warm up fast and get ready in a hurry - I'm not sure it's fair to him."

Matz, 24, is making his final minor-league rehab start on Monday after missing the last five weeks with a strained lat muscle. He also endured a lengthy rehab from Tommy John surgery earlier in his career.
