Terry Collins rewarded with two-year extension, sources say

Terry Collins will be back next season as manager of the Mets, sources told Newsday on Tuesday. Collins, 66, agreed to a two-year deal that takes him through the 2017 season. The new contract, which was expected, also provides for a bump in salary.

Collins, the oldest manager in baseball, led the Mets this season to their first National League pennant since 2000. His reward is the kind of security that has escaped him since taking the job following the 2010 season.

Before the new contract, the Mets held only an option for Collins for the 2016 season, essentially making him a lame duck in 2015.
