Logan Verrett, who allowed four homers in the first three innings, stares blankly out at the field after being pulled from the Mets' 8-6 loss to the Padres on Friday night at Citi Field.

Instead of awakening his players, manager Terry Collins might have given one of them a bad case of stage fright.

Exhibit A for the Mets on Friday was Logan Verrett, a train wreck almost from the moment he took the mound to face the Padres. Was this a struggling pitcher who simply had nothing or somebody gripping the baseball too hard as he stared in the face of chaos?
