Terry Collins’ new top lieutenant is the same person who replaced him as the Mets’ minor-league field coordinator five years ago.
Dick Scott, who most recently had served the organization as director of player development, was named Wednesday as Bob Geren’s replacement at bench coach. Geren left the organization last month to become the Dodgers’ bench coach.
Scott, 53, joined the Mets organization in 2011, after Collins was promoted from minor league field coordinator to manager. Scott previously worked in player development in the Astros and Blue Jays organizations.
Scott’s promotion leaves the Mets without a catching instructor on the major league level, but the club will continue to use Bob Natal in spring training.
