Terry Collins is returning to the Mets’ organization, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported. Collins will be coming back as a senior adviser for player personnel.
The 70-year-old Collins led the Mets to the 2015 World Series and is the franchise’s longest-tenured manager, with a record of 551-583 over seven seasons. He resigned following the 2017 season and remained with the team initially as a special assistant to then-general manager Sandy Alderson.
Robinson Cano and Michael Conforto were given a night off against left-hander Robbie Ray. The Mets, who rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night at Citi Field, don’t believe Cano is ready to play more than three games in a row after he recently missed a month with a torn left hamstring.
