NEW YORK -- New York Mets manager Terry Collins could not believe his eyes.
Collins' pitching staff entered the night with the fewest walks in the majors. But Mets pitchers walked 11 batters and hit two others in what became a 7-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Starter Bartolo Colon had five of those walks -- his most in a game since 2005. He issued consecutive walks to Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper in the first and third innings. Colon had not issued back-to-back walks even once in a game in nine years.
