New York’s sports teams have often served as vehicles to promote important causes around the city, and they continued to do so this past week in honor of slain NYPD officer Randolph Holder, who was gunned down in East Harlem while chasing a suspect.
All three Mets who took the podium at Thursday’s World Series media session — manager Terry Collins, starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard and outfielder Michael Cuddyer — donned NYPD caps in support of Holder.
Holder’s funeral was held Wednesday, and the Mets contributed funds to the officer’s family to defray burial and funeral expenses.
