Terry Collins has named Noah Syndergaard the Mets' Opening Day starter.
According to Collins, Syndergaard earned the honor with the way he pitched last season.
The Mets begin their 2017 season on April 3 at Citi Field against the Braves.
"He is one of our big character guys,'' Collins told the NY Post's Kevin Kernan last month. "He says, 'Give me the ball,' and he goes out and does the best he can. ... He's been fun to watch his development in such a short time.''
Syndergaard, 24, was 14-9 with a 2.
