NEW YORK -- With barely more than a week left in the regular season, the Mets are attacking the National League Wild Card race without their four top starting pitchers. The team announced Friday that Noah Syndergaard will skip his scheduled start Saturday against the Phillies due to strep throat. Sean Gilmartin will start in his place.
"You're numb to it now, this happens so much," Mets manager Terry Collins said.
Syndergaard returned to the Mets on Thursday following a two-day absence, feeling "extremely under the weather," according to Collins. At Citi Field, he continued receiving medication and fluids, hoping to return to the rotation Monday or Tuesday in Miami.
