Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard was largely dominant in 7.1 innings against the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon, but was done in by poor defense from his teammates in the seventh and eighth innings.
With the Mets up 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Yoenis Cespedes slid and had Tommy Pham's leadoff pop up in his tracks, but had it go off his glove for a double. Pham then came around to score on a bloop single to right field by Marcell Ozuna.
Later in the seventh, Todd Frazier couldn't field a hot shot off the bat of Paul DeJong that extended the inning and led to Syndergaard's pitch count elevating even further.
