SAN DIEGO — When Steven Matz has been healthy in the major leagues, his talent has shined. Hard-throwing left-handed starters like him are hard to find.
So it is surprising to see Matz, healthy and throwing hard as usual, struggling as he is now. Something just has not been right.
He pitched well when he returned from an elbow injury that claimed the first two months of the season. But his last four starts, including a clunker in a 6-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, have been head-scratching.
“I feel good and healthy out there,” he said.
