ATLANTA — Rarely has anything looked more certain than a Steven Matz victory for the Mets on Friday night — except maybe the Warriors over the Cavs for the NBA title after four Finals games.
Whatever the level above cruise control is, that’s where Matz resided heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Staked to an 8-0 lead, Matz had allowed one hit — the Braves’ only baserunner — and that guy was wiped out on a double play. Matz’ pitch count was an impressive 50 through four. Manager Terry Collins had said the rookie could go to 110.
