MIAMI — The blister on his middle finger that knocked out Steven Matz in Sunday’s sixth inning didn’t completely catch the Mets lefty by surprise.
Matz said he had previous blister issues, pitching in humid conditions for the Mets’ Single-A affiliate in Savannah (Ga.) in 2013.
So Matz said he is confident he won’t have to miss his next start for the Mets.
“I think we caught it before it got too bad,” Matz said after the Mets’ 4-3 loss to the Marlins. “It should be good to go.”
In his first major league start in two months, Matz allowed two earned runs on four hits over 5 ¹/u2083 innings.
