Steven Matz tossed two scoreless Monday, debuted new pickoff move

Mets LHP Steven Matz threw 39 pitches, while tossing two scoreless innings, during his Grapefruit League debut Monday against the Marlins in Jupiter, Fla.

He allowed three hits, walked none, struck out one, and had his fastball clocked between 91 and 93 mph, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.

Matz had surgery in late-September to remove a large bone spur from his pitching elbow. He ended his season early due to a rotator cuff impingement, which did not require surgery. Instead, Matz received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left shoulder.

"I definitely had some nerves going into it, just because it's been a long time since I've been out there," said Matz, who had a 3.
