Steven Matz rejoins Mets rotation; next start vs. Nationals?

Steven Matz made his final rehab start Monday night for Double-A Binghamton, pitching 5 ¹/u2083 scoreless innings in which he allowed one hit and walked two with four strikeouts.

He will join the Mets on Tuesday.

In all likelihood, the lefty will be slotted into the rotation this weekend in Miami, but manager Terry Collins wasn’t committing to anything yet. Another possibility would be pitching Matz on Monday to open a potentially big three-game series in Washington.

“We’ll have to wait to see what the reports are when the game is over and wait to see how he feels [Tuesday] and then we have penciled him in down the road here, but we have to wait to see how he comes out of it,” Collins said.
