Steven Matz picks up back injury with Mets playoffs in sight

The Mets’ plan to use their four young fire-ballers in a postseason rotation picked up an unwelcome wrinkle Tuesday when it was revealed rookie lefty Steven Matz is dealing with back stiffness in his right side.

Matz, seen as the No. 4 in the Mets’ playoff pecking order, is scheduled to start Wednesday, but general manager Sandy Alderson said that outing may be pushed back due to the ailment — which CBS Sports reported is “not thought serious” and Alderson said could have been caused by sleeping funny.

Matz’s final regular-season start could be delayed as little as one day, with Logan Verrett moving up to Wednesday.
